Over the past decade or so, the management of the Crystal Palace club has been under the leadership of an English businessman, Steve Parish. He made many changes, from governance and administration to coaching teams at various levels, including at a young age.
Palace upholds the principle of tiered coaching. This means that the teams at each level are well integrated, starting from the U18s, U23s, and continuing to the senior team. According to the club's official website, at least in the last 15 years, there have been 36 original academy coaches who have succeeded in being promoted to the senior team.
In July 2020 The Premier League has awarded Crystal Palace Academy Category 1 status following an independent assessment – the highest category possible for academies in the country.
The academy team's facilities are directly located opposite the First-Team's training ground on Copers Cope Road, so the synergy can work well.
Before Parish arrived in 2010, the Crystal Palace academy had also won several proud achievements. One of them was winning the FA Youth Cup for two consecutive seasons in 1977 and 1978.
Some well-known names such as Gareth Southgate, Victor Moses, and Nathaniel Clyne have also been part of the Crystal Palace academy team.
